my hella's stopped working

the fuses are good, the light still lights up in the little switch. what gives?

gonna take a closer look soon. this is bugging me. they worked just a few days ago. i dont see what could have happened that made them stop working.

Goodysgotacuda 01-04-2009 11:30 AM

Did you wire them up on a realy? Or just a switch? (should be a relay...)

Could be the switch, bad ground, open wire, etc. i don't know how multimeter inclined you are so I can't quite go too far into diag.

nbro3232 01-04-2009 12:17 PM

my relay went bad once, try that

I'd be putting a relay on if I were you.

Ford04Ranger4.0 01-04-2009 12:41 PM

I've been running it for the past 1 year never had a problem

thesoundmaster 01-04-2009 03:28 PM

Yep, no relay here, just hooked to the switch, battery and lights.

to the OP... check your switch. I went 18 months w/o mine, because I hooked the switch up backwards.

enraged_hunter 01-04-2009 06:32 PM

my kc's did that, i would double check the grounds thats what went on mine. 3 years they worked the nadda

Tys 4x4 FTW 01-06-2009 02:54 PM

well checked the grounds, and the switch. both are fine. it must be the relay. i have no idea where to find a replacement.

htjunkie 01-06-2009 02:57 PM

Any Auto parts store will have relays.

Tys 4x4 FTW 01-06-2009 03:13 PM

ive been to both autozone and checker and neither had them.

Order from there. But be careful cause it is really easy to spend lots of money.

pace51 01-06-2009 03:32 PM

Ground wire most likely. You should have them either on a fuse or a relay though.

chevyslayer925 01-06-2009 03:51 PM

ive got a whole wiring set up for hella's brand new never used, ill sell it to you and ship it tom if you want.

'problem' is subject to what you are looking at... Every time you flip that switch it arcs internally. Over time that will cause a voltage drop to your lights, slowly making them dimmer and dimmer. Relays are designed for that much better than most switches, also keeps bulky wiring from the inside of your pickup.

So "no problems" could be said if you used a multimeter and showed low voltage drop over the switch. Not quite otherwise.

Both, definitely a fuse. Fuse and a relay aren't really a 'either or'. Always have a fuse, relay is optional.

Tys 4x4 FTW 01-06-2009 04:30 PM

got it! it was the relay.

and mine are on a fuse and a relay.

i finally found an autozone that has Pilot relays. sweeet!

Downey 01-06-2009 06:48 PM

my cousin on his yota just did this and he thinks it the relay but we havent looked into it
