New nanofiber air filter designs for cars and trucks

This technology has been used for years in commercial and military applications, but Amsoil is marketing Donaldson nanofiber air filters under their own name and having them manufactured for more applications. These things are pretty amazing and AREN'T an Amsoil invention -- they're just pioneering them into regular cars and trucks.

First, here's some background on the technology:

http://www.inda.org/subscrip/inj04_2/p21-27-graham.pdf

Some information from Donaldson:

http://www.donaldson.com/en/filterme...ary/003313.pdf

And some of Amsoil's new blurb on them:

http://www.amsoil.com/products/ea_fi...spx?zo=1126678 (first page)
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaa.aspx (second page)

The one for most of our trucks, with the rectangular filter, is EaA-122.

I'm going to be looking into this as it flows almost as well as gauze, yet filters better than foam. I'm using oil wetted foam now. They use this filter tech in the M1-Abrams tank. Must be something to it as that is one of the ultimate "off road' vehicles, lol. The one on the tank is even self-cleaning.

One of the nice things about these is that they don't "clog" like foam and gauze so much. Since the material stays on the surface and never penetrates the filter, the filter is easier to clean and doesn't show a reduction in flow as quickly as other types, even though it filters better.

There's plenty more infomation on nanofiber tech out there, if you want to search for it.

Sweet... I could use a new air filter. Was thinking of getting a K&N aircharger, but I'll most likely go with that instead.

I refuse to put a K&N on my truck. I bought a kit for $50 then I think I accidentally threw out a vital peice that attaches the filter to the intake tube so now it's useless. I'm going to use it on my computer if I can find a decent way to do it.

Okay, but keep in mind if you put a snorkel on your computer you have a net loss of MIPS at higher clock speeds...

prolly, wouldnt be a good idea to put that much of a filter on your Pc.

Not enough suction to pull the air throu the filter. Think of how much suction your truck produces. Then think about your computer. No comparison.

I highly doubt that would be an issue. It's still creating a vacuum and there is a large surface area from the filter (the cone K&N, not the flat one) to flow properly. Like I said I'd have to find a reasonable way to mount it so it didn't look overly ridiculous. I'm expecting mildly ridiculous but that's kool cuz I'm (at least) mildly ridiculous so it'll suit me :)

hmm, i still dont think there will be enough pull from the fan, to get air throu the filter.

You fan would burn up, quicker, as it trys to forcefully pull this air throu the filter.

About $250-300. You can go the cheap route and make your own with Home Depot pipes/a civic intake. I just got it because at that time I knew nothing about RPS or GEN-Edge :)

If I'd known, I woulda saved some dough! But the K&N does it's job very well and I've had no problems except finding out how to make a heat shield that doesn't suck like the ones that come with the kit.

These are dropin filters, not intake kits and they aren't $250-$300. Bob (Soundper4mance) quoted me under $40 for my filter.

As soon as I get paid on thursday I am ordering one!!

Brand New K&N Filter caused the M.I.L to activate for MAF trouble.... I was pi$$ed off and brought the filter back... Got a Fram in there right now.. Can't wait to get this thing!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!

Take it from me.. If you want to get this filter don't make the same mistake I did.. Get yer filter from SoundPer4mance...

I ordered the filter from AMSOIL direct off their website on the 26th of October... I had a 4-day battle with them via Email only to find out they are out of stock on them.

thats funny, they never said anything when I placed the order.. I had to fight with them just to be TOLD THAT!! So I told them I was insulted as a customer and would advise everyone to look elsewhere for a filter.

After telling them that and that I was disgusted with their service...
Here is what they had to say when I asked them what the deal was....
We have processed your order. I do apologize but it is on backorder at this time. I would guess maybe 1 more week. The warehouse will ship it out as soon as it becomes available.

Thanks
Stefanie
Low and Behold they found one and are shipping it out to me.. WOW!! I thought they said they were out of stock and wouldn't have them back in 4 a week...

Anyway, steer clear of them... Pretty Shady if you ask me.. I would say just go with SoundPer4mance for the filter.. In any even the thing is on it's way so as soon as I get it I will post some info on it for y'all..

Don't be ridiculous. **** happens. I've dealt with them for years and if you're going to get you back up after one order, fine. But Bob and I and everyone else who orders a lot of stuff from them would tell you they are like any other vendor.

I think it's GREAT if you order from Bob -- but he may not be stocking them. Most of us order from Amsoil or have them direct shipped to the end user from Amsoil.

They apologized AND found you one, and you're still mad about it!

Calm down and give them another chance. Geez.

i do order mine from AMSOIL when i get an order, to save on shipping costs. Typically my customers recieve theirs in 3-5 business days, BUT, if they are out of stock, then they are just plain out of stock, and even i cant get them. at least if you ordered through me you wouldnt pay tax or shipping

I got mine in 2 business days from Bob, the newspaper in the shipping box said Orlando sentinel and I'm in tampa, thats probably why.

I put mine in earlier today, Honestly there was no noticeable difference as far as torque low or high end, no real sound difference. what I'm really hoping for is gas mileage increase
