OHC in 99

I was following Nelz instructions in wiring up my console. I need help hooking up the VSS wire though. MY GEM dosn't have the black connector like his.

Anyone with the same year know what wire to tap into?

it's grey with a black stripe, just look behind the radio bezel for it in one of the wire bundles back there

For 99, there should be 4 connectors on your GEM. Look for the gray/black VSS at the 18-pin connector.

If you have RABS, it is pin #1.
If you have 4WABS, it is pin #9.

I have done this on my 99 (4wabs). The wire needed is burried in the bottom connector of the gem. I had to unplug the harness to fish the wire out to be tapped.

Yes and it is gray with a black stripe -- but there are actually 2 wires that color on later trucks which is why I specified the connector. It's an input to the OHC and it's doubtful anything you tap into can damage the OHC or vice versa. So if you do tap one and the OHC sometimes does it's "fail-to-update-temperature" thing, just pick another gray/black, lol.

Is that the ONLY gray/black wire comming off of the GEM? (the only gray/black wire in that area behind the radio?)

sorry, just read the above answer. Does the 98 have two gray black wires?

98~2000 have a single grey/black at the GEM. It is in one of the two locations in the 18-pin connector depending on which ABS the truck has.

Does the gray/black wire come from the plug with the red arrow?

I don't have a 98 truck here to look at, just a schematic. Count the pins, there is only one 18-pin on the GEM.

I did it on my 98, I believe on mine I had just a single plug and the VSS wire was on the back right hand side if you had it unplugged and facing you. It's gray with a black stripe on it and iirc, that was the only gray/black wire in there.

Wired up and everything. Works great. This should hold me over for a while until the "mod bug" bites again......Those e-fans are looking mighty tempting! Thanks for everyone's help!
