Can anyone tell me, for sure, if the "Lenses" that cover the thermometer and compass displays on pre '98 Explorer OHC's were blue and those post '98 were green. If such is the case...any ideas on where to get a blue one. I'd rather get a "new" one as opposed to trying to get one out of a wreck... Assuming they are replaceable.

I'm not sure on the blue/green being year specific but I've had both. the "blue" one is more of a teal color though and I doubt you can get them new anywhere aside from possibly finding an entire new LCD display unit replacement.

simple to remove with a small flathead screwdriver though, just pry it out.

 

There not really wear and tear its just a lens i pulled my whole unit from a wreck and the covers were just fine just make sure theres no obvious scratches in it. But if anyone still has access to them probably LMC truck but i don't remember if they do explorers never looked.

 

95-97: blue-green
98-01/05: green

 

I have no idea of the years they came from, but the blue ones aren't really that blue, more of a teal/blueish color, but they do look more blue than the green ones

I think I have a couple green ones, but I'm pretty sure I sent out my last extra blue one a while ago.

If you do run across a blue one that's scuffed up, it's not too hard to refinish them. I've done that to lots of them as well as dome light & ohc lenses... afterwards they look as good as new.
