Oil in my airbox, please help
Morning,
Was cleaning up the engine bay of my Ranger, thought I would inspect the air filter while I was at it. When I opened up the airbox, there were small pools of oil in the crevices that make up the bottom of the inside. Looks like engine oil, slightly used. The air intake silencer seems to be wet from oil too, and theres lots of dust trapped. Thankfully though, it seems that none of it has managed to seep through the filter itself, and sneak into the engine.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how this could have happened? Or where the oil has come from? I had a good look everywhere under the hood, even crawled underneath to take a look, and I am completely stumped.

it's from your crankcase ventilation pipe. i noticed it happened a lot w/ my golf since i was always under heavy acceleration. if you look at the bottom of the air box there should be a pipe going down to the valve cover.
Took the valve off, its fairly clean, still has lots of "rattle" to it. But what is the electrical connector for I wonder? Any replacement parts ive seen online tend not to have that electrical plug.

Some models in colder climates or California trucks come with a heated pcv.
Ok, it must some sort of other problem. Ive taken the intake apart, cleaned it, re assembled it with the old PCV... and there is no new oil in my airbox. My white filter is still white. Possibly sabotage? Its not un common for vandalism where I am. Either way, Im completely clueless, BUT relieved that the problem has not precised. And Hillyard, you are corrected. Its an electrically heated PCV, none of the small shops where I am from have even heard of that style. A FORD OEM replacement is 65 bucks! OUCH!
Oil in air filter box and on filter.
