Optima Battery Mounting?

I just picked up an Optima Yellow Top battery but it is not wanting to sit properly in the battery compartment. How did you guys get your's mounted?

RHuckster 08-18-2006 11:56 AM

Mine was just slightly bigger long ways so I bent 1 front lip back a tad to fit. Then elongated the mounting hole in the wannabe hold down to clamp down on the battery fairly tight.

Ok cool. Thanks.

One mroe question. Is there anything special about a new battery? Can I just put it in and start it up or do I have to charge it?

RHuckster 08-18-2006 12:12 PM

Nope, drop it in, hook it up & start the truck.

Awesome. Thanks for the quick replies man! Now to order my 200amp alternator. :196:

RHuckster 08-18-2006 12:20 PM

Good Luck, I ordered the 170A alt. myself, I couldn't see the extra $50 for 30 amps. I will still have almost double what the stocker is & almost the same amps @ an idle as the stock alt @ full output. Remember to upgrade the wiring as well when you add the 200A alt.

Speaking of that, could you PM me all the extra stuff that I would need along with the 200amp alt? Like wiring, breakers, etc. That would be awesome. Thanks again. :196:

with the 200 amp alternatory you will need prolly 1/0 gauge power wire, a 200 amp fuse or 200 amp breaker your choice.......and 1/0 gauge wire connectors..............that is all you will need to hook it up and upgrade your power wire.....along with the upgrade you should also use the stock wire......or you could get a 200 amp alternator kit from Jusnes Modified.com. they also sell the 200 amp alternator!

RHuckster 08-18-2006 12:57 PM

They haven't got the wiring upgrade kit yet do they? I just ordered their 170A alt. the other day but they hadn't finished up a wiring kit as yet. I purchased a 200A breaker, 4G wire & the 4G eye connectors online.

Rick

lifted97ranger 08-18-2006 01:09 PM

i could've swore they had it a few months back......maybe not...........it is easy to put one together though!

RHuckster 08-18-2006 01:20 PM

You might want to get all the facts before posting, the point of these forums is to help not lead them off on a wild goose chase.

High Performance 170 and 200 amp units must have the positive battery wire upgraded, to 4 gauge wire. We are working on developing this upgraded wire, but it is not yet available

I'd get 2 or 0 gauge welding Cable its inexpensive and good wire.
Any welding supply shop will have it along with all the assorted rings etc.

4 gauge IMO isnt big enough if you are going to upgrade make it a real upgrade.

And please dont bring up the journeyman hvac **** and say I'm wrong as

IMO= IN MY OPINION

RHuckster 08-18-2006 01:28 PM

And another expert speaks just to make me look like an ASS. It seems every site that sells 170-200A alt. says use 4G wire.

Rick

RHuckster 08-18-2006 01:29 PM

If I said use 00G you would argue bud & I posted from Jusnes site so I'm sure they are wrong as well...right..

95 amps.....

RHuckster 08-18-2006 01:35 PM

90A is the stocker but I guess some came with 130's.
I wasn't ragging on you, I just think if someone has just bought an item from that certain vender he would know whats going on but you felt that pointing out I was wrong was needed.

Rick

look at this site mr. professional at everything!.......http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp it says what size wire to use for a certain amps......i believe 4 gauge stops at about 150 amps! 2 gauge to 225 amps, and 1/0 gauge to 350 amps......HERE IS YOUR SIGN! know your **** before you post please.......stuff like this is why your were banned before!

:owned_tan

btw......you never stated that you said to use 00 gauge wire.....you did state that you bought 4 gauge power wire for your 170 amp alternator.........

RHuckster 08-18-2006 01:41 PM

OK, I thought mine was 90, so its 95. I believe if you go by that site you need to let Jusnes & other sites they are wrong & need to upgrade to 0 or 00G. I myself am going to leave the wiring intact & just add a 4G wire with breaker in line.
Sorry if you guys get pissed because someone doesn't agree with you.

could be you may need to get your alternator checked....your alt may be struggling so bad that it is putting a strain on the rest of the drive pulleys....i highly doubt it is with the alternator though.........it may be something else that just happens to occure when you turn on the alternator.......
