our new car has a lil problem...

okay, my mom just bought a used 2003 ford escape, we noticed its giving us a flashing airbag light, she's gonna call the dealership Monday (She picked it up today) and were hoping they will fix it since we bought if from the dealer, but I was wandering if it will be under a warranty b/c it has 71,000 miles...

OR

can anyone get me a guide to decipher the sequence of flashes??? I've heard by counting the times it flashes you can locate the problem...

I did some research online and found the 2 sensors under the seats, I'm gonna disconnect them and reconnect, maybe this can fix the problem...

Here's the Escape, this is the best one I've seen by far... even has these jeep like tow hooks on the rear bumper...

Raise hell with them.. they should fix it for free, if you just got it...

My dodge ram... first week i had it, the tranny messed up(imagine that) i took it back, and said heres the keys.. fix it... they had it a couple days, i complained until they gave me a rental for 2 days...

Fixed my truck for free, gave it back to me

theres suppose to be a 30 day warrante through the used car place...

Take it back there and tell them to fix it. If it was doing it when you bought it they should fix it. Not to mention if you look in the paperwork most dealers have at least a 30 day warranty. Dont mess with the battery untill you get it resolved through the dealer. If push comes to shove and they dont want to work with you. Bring up the BBB and or a lawyer.

take it back, then they'll chew up the used car inspector for missing that.
That is a safety concern so there should be no prob in getting that covered under basic dealer warranty.

after you start it it should start blinking, it'll blink at a steady pace, then take a 2-3 second pause, then blink steady again. the blinks b/w the pauses is the airbag code number. if you can get that i can look it up for you. and disconnecting the battery will do nothing. airbag codes do not clear till the problem is fixed.

In the Ranger, i think the airbag light has something to do with the connection under the seat, it can come loose or need to be cleaned over time.

yeah, I looked at them on the escape and they look brand new, I was browsing and people said that the light only came on if someone got in and adjusted the seat,lol... so is the drivers airbag always on, or is this blinking for both airbags in the vehicle???

Yep, the dealer should fix it for free. Is there a law that requires cars sold at dealers to have working safety equipment? It seems like there probably would be.

I'm hoping that a chevy dealer can fix it, I'm thinking they use a universal (US automakers) diagnostic tool... thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes, and we also gotta ask for an extra key, all we got was 2 keypads and one key, I bet they forgot the other one... *sigh*

how many possibilities can it be?

because I'd hate to be off by 1-2... I'm just gonna tell the dealer that it blinks and stays lit

Well... its so bad that we gotta go back tomorrow to get an extensive scan, and the best part, looks like the dealer where we got it doesn't wanna pay for the effin airbag service, so we paid $85 bucks to get a special key since when we bought it it only had one key... can anyone at a ford place see if the previous owner reported an airbag light or anything? I guess the old owner saw that got it checked out found that it was gonna be expensive and sold it...

VIN is 1FMCU03193KD74858 PM me if you find anything, I'm gonna go buy the carfax sheet on it...

this is the other issue, my dad pointed it out the night we got it home, to me sounds like a supercharger, so I'm thinking its one of the pulleys going bad...

I did get a hold of a carfax and it has stayed in Alabama since 2003, it has 2 previous owners, the second being the one who drove it till the warranty went out and I assume didn't wanna fix anything... and now were the owners, unfortunately...at least they put brand new tires on it and a new battery before trading it in...

yeah, cause from what I'm guessing if they gotta take out trim and seats its gonna get expensive... I guess the best thing to do would be to buy a brand new car, that way nobody has messed it up...

Well as of today and the escape being at the dealership all day, it appears the dumbf***s at the dealership couldn't fix it, took them all day too... so mom called up our salesman and we are getting our old car back along with our money... that thing was a Lemon if I've ever seen one... so she's gonna try for a new car... but not from any of these local dealerships...
