PASSENGER AIRBAG SWITCH

The air bag warning light is flashing .
It's flashing 2 times pauses and flashes 7 times then repeats.
I found that this is a Code 27 which means that the passenger airbag switch is not working. In reality it's the bulb that's out..
The local Ford house wants $125 for the switch.
I did find one on Ebay for $45 but it says it's for a '93 to '97 model.
Does anyone know if this will work on my 2004 regular cab style side (not the step side) truck ?

Thanks
Ron

I have the same thing and found some DIY where one can solder a replacement bulb or LED to take care of the issue. However, after a 30 mile drive today I noticed that upon my arrival my dash light was out and my passenger air bag light on the switch was back on to tell me it is not activated, (which is the position I had selected). Throughout the day it was going off and back on so this tells me the bulb (or LED) is not burned out but something else is a miss. I am hoping that it's a poor connection once I get a chance to investigate it further, stay tuned!.

Which brings me to this question: When I am getting the flashes to indicate the malfunction followed by a steady light on the dash showing the airbag symbol does that mean should a need for the airbag to deploy arise it will not or, it means that be aware that one of the components in the system is not working but I will continue to work/deploy if need be???

Any input or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I really don't know if the warning code is on if the bag will actually work.
That might be a good question for your Ford Dealer.

I bought a lower dash panel with every thing needed. I just took out the old panel with the old switch and light, and replaced it with the new panel (with ash tray too) and light and it cleared the warning code and all is good now.

I did also receive a letter from Ford which was a recall for my truck. It had to do with the airbag inflators thing saying that it could, upon impact, explode and shrapnel could also thrown about in a harmful or even fatal manner.

I have yet to take care of that.

Thanks for your help. It's greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ranger Ron! Mine is an 2003 and I am not the original owner so I will have to follow up with my local dealer, as I am sure Ford does not know that I am the new owner where they can contact me for those kind of recalls.

My Ranger is a 2004 and I too am not the original owner.
I guess they do a search for the VIN registration and mail the recall notice to the latest owner.

It came directly from Ford Motor Company.
You could probably do a Google search for Ford Ranger recalls and find more information that way.

The address is :
Ford Motor Company
P.O. Box 1904
Dearborn, Michigan 4821-1904

The recall number is 17S42.

For anyone else that reads this thread, the light is very easy to replace if you can solder, and only a few bucks.

Radio Shack part # 272-1092
Or similar bulb with these specs
Voltage: 12V
Current: 60mA
Brightness (MSCP): 0.15
Average life: 10,000 hours

Thanks Ron and Dusten for the information. I was actually set to get the replacement as Dusten indicated but as I recounted the light came back on a couple of times yesterday. This tells me the bulb is OK, but something else is going on, I am thinking maybe a poor connection. I may just need to unplug and re-plug and see what happens.

I hope that works for you.
Sometimes the simplest is overlooked.
Good luck.
