Power Steering intermittently stops working

Hi I'm new here. Just got a 98 Ranger XLT 4x2 2.5 auto. The power steering intermittently stops working after I stop and start to move again. As long as I'm driving it seems to work fine. I have checked the fluid it is fine. The belt was making noise and I put belt dressing on it and that stopped. Any help would be appreciated

remove the belt and try to turn the power pump by hand

check for play in the pump bearings , sounds like the pump is failing
