power window down

power window down

RedEdngold I have a 2001 Ranger supercab withn 4.0 v6 . My problem is driver side power window will go down but not up all the times. Two years had same problem ,had it in shop for something else had then do work. said it was the one touch down relay. i assumming it's same problem now. but were is the one touch down relay located at?? Owner manual has nothing on it. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the one touch down relay has nothing to do with it. When you press the down button for a quick duration the GEM senses this and activates the relay to pull your window down. When the window reaches the bottom, there is a spike of current because the motor strains a little. The gem senses this and deactivates the relay.

I could be mistaken but I would have to look at some diagrams later tonight to confirm this.

I'm thinking your motor is getting weak. It sounds like its losing its grunt. Its a whole lot easier to drop the window than to raise it back up. One thing you can to see if the window guide is greased. Its the rail that goes in the middle of the door that the regulator arm attaches to.

Intermittent, maybe just the switches…

If it is only the drivers window then it has to be isolated to that door.

Check out each component separately starting with the switch/power going to and from it.

I am just guessing here but it is what I would do.
