So yeah, most of you know the specs on the replacement truck I bought. When it was taken to the shop for the tear down, a tech pointed something out to me. There was nasty scraping(almost to the point of gouging) on my 15"x8" American Racing rims. I think he said it was a balljoint rubbing on the inside of the rim. I wish I had pics. I'm not front end guru, I can tell you what part is what but never replaced nor fully understood the purpose of all the front end suspension/steering components. IIRC it's about an inch inside the rim, it's to the point of 1/16"-1/8" deep and about 1/8"-3/16" wide. When doing research on fitting an RCD to an 03 I remember something about the dif caliper size and the truck originally had the 15"x7"s. I also remember something about the 03's caliper size being changed in the middle of the production year.

I removed the front sway bar to keep it from rubbing the inside of the tires. I did notice a light scraping sound at full lock no matter which side was turned. I just never figured out what it was.

I only had the tires off, personally, once when Ben (Ranger1) came to my house and we were unsuccessfully trying to crank the coilovers. I have a set of OEM upgrade rotors and a set of carbon-metallic pads I swiped off my old truck b/c they only had 500+/- miles on them.

I don't even know exactly what I'm asking, lack of sleep is killer. What's up with the rubbage on the inside of my front rims? My old truck was built 11/02, not sure of the production date of this truck. Think the rotors and pads are swappable? I'd like to take care of this situation in the meantime whilst waiting for the insurance company to stop dragging their feet.

Scott (big04ranger) has 15" wheels on his '04 with the RCD........i think there is something wrong with your front end.....

btw....aint your coilovers upside down? that my be the problem....

 

pics would help alot to tell where the actual rub is. some 15" wheels have issues on the 12" rotor setup.
AFAIK, the RCD requires the 11.25 rotor setup anyhow though......

the coilovers arent anywhere near the rims. they are inside the control arms. shouldnt be an issue.

the upper balljoint may be rubbin due to the taller spindle on the RCD plus the backspacing of your wheels. do you know the BS on your rims.

I'll be checking out the truck here soon. The coilovers are not upside down. You can read the Bilstien logo correctly as they should be.

 

the rcd kit has to have the 11.25" rotors 01-02 and pads, otherwise it will have problems.

 

My old truck had the smaller rotors, I'm not sure on this one. I'll just have to find out here. I'd like to have all the kinks worked out by the time all the major repair work is done. Maybe a couple extra's I've got laying around from my old truck to slap on =]
