Ranger Forum Newbie, VSC Install?

Not quite a rookie when it comes to technical forums, typically drive a few E250 cargo vans for work, owned by me. And I hope this is the right forum for my question?

Have a neighbor who'd like to add the factory Vehicle Speed control to his '08 Ranger. In fact if possible to obtain and re-fit his truck with such a kit or assembled OEM parts it shouldn't be too difficult. I'll NOT mess with anything aftermarkket at all-----nada, zip, zilch zero, No Way Jose!

If anyone here has ever done this themselves please enlighten me. Is there a prerequisite like factory-installed wiring harness etc---this is the case on the E-Series.

Is there a kit available or anywhere I can download or view the factory re-fit installation instructions? Those would be very helpful.

Anyway thanks for looking and hoping to hear from the Ranger bunch.

Go to the dealership. I know they used to sell kits if your vehicle isn't too old.

Its either part# 4L5Z-9A818-AAA, -BAA, -CAA. I think those are upto 2006 vehicles though. At least that should get you started at the parts counter of your local dealership.

Thank you Shelton---I appreciate that info!

I was hoping for something more specific to the '08 though---finding the OEM number(s) isn't my problem at all.

I'm seeking what connector(s) need to be present in the '08's in order to simply add and connect the VSC components and drive happy. Is it necessary to have something in the PCM "turned on" in order to recognize and properly operate the VSC servo or whatever controls the throttle?

first you need to find out if the truck is prewired or not some are some arent ...if it is you just need the steering column, wheel, and the actual cruise components

is his truck an XL, XLT?

There are no visible XL or XLT designations. It is 2WD, extended cab withOUT power windows or power door locks, standard AM/FM radio.

I do understand whether its pre-wired makes a difference, what I'm asking is how do I tell if it is? On my E-Series the connector for the throttle servo needs to be present otherwise that chassis cannot be fitted with the OEM VSC.

Has anyone here done this addition with OEM parts? Would this question be better asked in another forum here?
