Hi All, Ranger Wild Trak 3.2 - 2018 Automatic in the UK
Not sure if this is the right section, so put me right if I'm wrong.
Had an issue with a wheel sensor which was causing Hill descent malfunction, Park Pilot and ABS warning to come on. (Hopefully that should have all been sorted with a new cable fitted)
But have an issue which seems to have stumped my mechanic a bit. Tried to start the car up. Everything came on, full battery etc... but no ignition. Got the Road Side rescue out (RAC) who figured out how to get the vehicle started. He removed the Starter Motor Solenoid Relay "gu5t-14b192-ga" and placed a piece of copper wire in there instead. The car turned over straight away. We've tried swapping the the Relays around, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Relay: gu5t-14b192-ga
My question is: What could stop the engine turning over whilst just putting a piece of wire in there doesn't?
That’s a simple one. The jumper he installed likely bypassed the contacts in the relay that activate a circuit that allows the vehicle to start. Did you try replacing the relay? That should have solved the problem. If you swapped in another relay from the same board, they must be the same relay number. Just because they look the same and plug in ok, doesn’t mean they are the same internally.
