Remove Stock Fan
Remove Stock Fan
Use a fan removal tool. They can be purchased for under $20 or many parts stores will loan you one. The 4.0L is a regular thread so lefty loosey will get the fan off. On the 3.0 it is threaded the opposite, so righty loosey.
The 3.0 water pump bolts are recessed into the water pump and the removal tool will not seat on them. You must remove the 4 10 mm bolts from the pulley, slide the pulley forward, then reinstall the bolts. Loosen the 4 bolts with the belt still attached. This should give you enough tension to prevent the pulley from spinning.
On the 4.0 (and probably the 3.0), you need to remove the shroud at the same time you lift the fan out of the engine bay. The latemodel 4.0's have two 10mm bolts holding the fan shroud in.
