replaced fuel sender unit ... and noticed that

the return fuel line seems to be a line inside of another line or double walled tube. my problem is that the old sender tube broke off and i need to cut off the old fuel fitting and clamp it to the new sending unit-return fuel line. at first it seemed that the fitting was a barbed implant type but looks like it is one piece with a molded end. can i just cut the return line and is it just hollow? i may try to splice from the broken tube to the new tube but i pulled and twisted so much i may have damaged the inner-tube just below the fitting. also the stub won't come out of the fitting and i had removed the clip. can i just cut and splice? thanks in advance.joe.

it is just a double wall tube

the inside is a 5/16 hard plastic fuel line. i cut it and fiddled a barb in and a 3/8 clamp on fuel line with brass fittings. i could of bought a 20 dollar ea repair kit with a new fitting but another 40 + was done for 15 bux instead.repair prob solved.
