Cranks but won't start
I have a manual 2003 4.0L 4x4 ford ranger that cranks but won't start. I was idling at a gas station and the engine died out. I tried to catch it in gear down a hill but still couldn't start it. I towed it back to my house and the check engine light is on. I plugged in my code reader and it says 0 codes but has one incomplete EVAP system. If you have any ideas what could be wrong please let me know.

Here's a few things you can try checking:
Fuses:
1. fuses 2, 9, and 19 in the central junction box.
2. fuses 23 and 41 in the battery junction box.
If they check good, pull one of the fuel injectors wiring connector and place a 12v test light inline with the two terminals and have someone crank the engine. You should see the test light blink. This will confirm whether or not the injectors are getting the signal to inject fuel.
Next you can buy a cheap spark tester such as Spark Tester to verify whether your getting power to the plugs.
If those all test good the next step would be to verify your getting fuel to the fuel rail.

battery junction box is located under hood and central junction box is located in cab. For a pictorial of locations click this link 2003 Manual and go to Roadside Emergencies.
