This morning the battery on my truck was completely drained because I forgot to turn off the a/c last night. I think the genius who owned it before me wired it directly to the battery, so it stays on even if the engine isn't running. I while I was jumping it I noticed a red wire conected to the positive terminal, grounded to the frame and running into the area behind the dash. now here are my questions:

Is it safe to assume this is whats powering my a/c and draing the battery?

If it is where is that wire suposed to go and why would they jury rig it like this?

I did find the electrical diagram online but its a little confusing to read, and I dont know if this wire is the color it should be. I also tested the battery and it's still good. How long do I have to run the engine to recharge it?

 

Pull it off and if it shut the truck down reattach it !

 

By A/C you mean the blower is running all the time?

 

After more investigation I found out that red wire has nothing to do with the a/c. Its actually for the pointless push button start someone added before me...

So I'm back to square one with a/c problem. @shelton It's not on all the time, but if I forget to turn it off when I park the truck it will stay running until the battery dies. Unlike every othe car I have owned where the a/c shuts off when the engine is off.

I saw a case on another ranger forum where the a/c was wired to the fuse meant for the dome light. My truck is missing the dome light, and I'm assuming that fuse is always hot, so that might be the next thing I check

 

Check for power on the number 2 (7.5 amp) fuse with the truck off and see if it has power.

 

I'm still confused. Is it running the fan blower or keeping the a/c clutch engaged when the truck is OFF?

 

Please be more specific as to the nature of your problem, i.e., A/C Compressor coil stays engaged or Fan Blower Motor continues to run (blowing) after engine ignition is switched off (Key off and removed).
