so I took it to autozone and they told me that it was the type of gas that I am useing. I use the 87 Octante from the gas station I work at. They told me that it was because of the amount of ethonal as well as the wmount of the water....
now honestly ive never herd of this.. i was quite releaves it was nothing major.. but it was so stupidly simple ...
so I ran some dry gas through the system... any other suggests?

Check your gas cap. My wife's Mustang had the check engine light problem and Ford wanted $70 to just look at it. I asked around and found that a faulty gas cap can cause the check engine light to come on. It may be a shot in the dark, but at least it's a cheaper start. Good luck and let us know what happens with it.

Sounds like nonsense unless you were running some fuel with a very high alcohol content. Most states don't an allow gasoline to be labeled as gasoline if the alcohol content is over 10%.

There are special ethanol fuels (E70 or E85) available for Flex Fuel Vehicles but your truck is not an FFV. These fuels can have an alcohol content of up to 85%. A CEL would be possible if you filled up your truck with E70 of E85.

The only way to know why the CEL is on is to get the exact code number (Pxxxx) from the PCM using an OBDII reader. You could go back to Autozone and ask them to give you the exact number without their diagnosis. Post the code here and someone will help you.

Regarding the idea about the fuel cap - late model Rangers with leaky fuel caps will illuminate a CHECK FUEL CAP light before illuminating the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
