Stalls while driving
Stalls while driving
My 2001 3.0 v6 2wd stalls every now and again, while driving.
We've recently replaced the timing chain cover gasket, water pump, drivetrain belt and tensioner pully, spark plugs and wires trying to fix the issues. This was all done to fix a major coolant leak, and a P0305 code. Also added fuel injector treatment and installed a new fuel filter, after it stalled a few more times while driving. It idles perfectly fine, no missing or engine wobble. No new codes came up for any other electrical or fuel issues.issues.
Not sure what else to do...any suggestions or ideas to help fix the stalling issue??

The engine shuts off while I am driving in city traffic, and it sometimes restarts immediately...but I usually need to let the engine to sit while it's off, before I can restart it. Sometimes it'll drive normally, and sometimes it keeps "stalling" several times in a short period...then I let it sit for a few minutes and restart it again. It acts like there's no gas, hence the changing of spark plugs, wires, fuel additive, fuel filter and new gas cap. Now it just shuts off
Manual or auto trans?
If manual, do you do that weird thing American's do, and depress the clutch when they take their foot off the gas, coasting?
Fuel trim/idle are important obviously, i'm assuming it dies under constant cruising throttle? or only when you lift off?

Wondering if it actually is the fuel pump... even though no codes are popping up for it. Going to buy positive battery cable end, code reader, and probably a fuel pump tomorrow. Not sure what else to do at this point

It's an automatic. It dies on both constant and lift off. Couldn't get it up 55mph...got it to about 53mph before it died. And then died a dozen times trying to get back home. It did a couple "surges" where it would loose power and then go back to normal, and then there were times it just died with no surges or indication it was going to die. Tonight it seemed to die more when the ac or defrost was turned on, or a sudden turn around a corner.

Yep... And probably a little bit from the parts that were replaced too. It looked like plug wires, coil pack, egr valve and crankshaft position sensor were all original...so it's a good thing they were replaced :-)
