Fog lights questions

So my 99 4x4 xlt did not come with fog lights, so i have started buying the parts to install them. I have the lower valance with fog light cut outs. I bought an exploder radio bezel with the fog light button.

and these wires previously were not plugged into anything so i plugged it into the fog light button:

what does the wire with the black plug under my thumb go to?

i got to looking under the truck and found this wire plug that is not attached to anything: under the left headlight. its the single plug on the left.

[IMG][/IMG]

my fuse box in the engine bay does not have a fog light fuse currently installed.

any help on this subject would be appreciated.

so all i guess i need is the wires from that plug under the bumper to the fog lights and the foglights themselves and a fuse for the engine compartment fuse box and i should be set?

Hey Nathan I have a 99 Ranger too. Where did you pick up the lower valance with fogs and how much did it cost in total? Also where did you get the radio bezel and price of that? I have been wanting to do this mod but dont want to start it until summer.

Thanks,

Greg

So when I do decide to do this I will have the wire in my truck even though I dont have fogs right now? So all I have to do is get a new bezel and hook up the wire to the bezel then I can turn it on and off from inside the cab?

The black plug is for another cigerette lighter. Thats the way it is on my 04.

Unfortunatly I had to run my own wires because there arn't any plugs up by the bumper.

i dont know why i didnt think of that, i would have figured that out though next weekend when i take out the wiper control and put the other cig lighter back in. thanks

ohh and one more thing, the rear defrost button, is it set up the same as the fog light button, i mean in my car when i hit the defrost button it will automatically go off after 10 min. but this one seems like it clicks in to stay on constantly, is it possible to use if for something else?

I don't know what year that Explorer bezel is from and I don't have any Ex wiring manuals from before 1998. The Ex defrost switches that I have seen are momentary on push buttons and do not click and latch on. On 98+ Explorer, the timing for the rear defrost is done in the GEM. Earlier years could be different.

Unless Ford included them in the underhood box, you will also need to add the Fog Lamp Relay and the Fog Lamp Isolation Relay. They are #8 and #10 at the bottom of this diagram:

Hello all,

I have a quick question for you all.

I have an 08 XL 2wd Ranger with the black lower valance and i am wanting to put fog lights into the hole where they go on the valance.

My question is, is there any company outside ford that makes these to go inside the hole and the wiring can it be wired into the existing wiring harness or would i need to run a switch inside the cab?

Would rather they come on with the low beam and running lights and off with the high beams.

You can get Depo fogs from eBay and Certifit. Same exact thing as what comes stock, I have them on my truck.
