STILL won't start?!
STILL won't start?!
So I posted about a week ago, my 94 XLT (V6 4.0L) will start up, but won't stay running. I assumed right off the bat it was the fuel pump, but when I turn the key to On I hear it prime, so I know the fuel pump is working. I then thought it was the fuel filter, so I replaced that today, and it's doing the same thing still. I'm at an utter loss of ideas of what it could be, any of you guys think you could save me a trip to a shop? I don't have the cash for it at the moment ><
Its only been an hour! Give people some time, its not very busy on here at this time of night! There are a lot of intelligent people on here im sure someone can give you some info.
How long does it stay running?
While running how does it run?

My truck done the same thing about 2 years back an I unplugged my IAC an it would run as long as i kept my foot on the gas slightly an soon as it warmed up it would idle. So that's what my problem was..I'm not saying that's your problem but it wouldn't hurt to look in to. Hope that helped any at all! If not let me know i only know of one more possible thing that could cause it.
Ditto, you need to actually make sure you have decent pressure. It is possible for the pump to work and not have enough pressure for the car to run. I don't know how a Ford works but on GM's if you have a problem with the MAF sensor the car will freak out and start but immediately die afterwords. Apparently the computers don't like to see the engine running with no air flow through the MAF.
There are kits to check pressure right?
How would I check the MAF sensor? I know where it is, but don't know what to do with it to be honest
Thanks for all the replies guys, every tip gets me one step closer to driving my baby again

You can buy fuel pressure gauges, I think I bought mine at Autozone for $30-40. On the MAF sensor I'm not to sure of a test on a Ford. You could try swapping it with one off another truck. On a GM you can just unplug it and the car will go into speed density mode and continue to run. MAF's rarely go out but it is something to look into.
