Icon4 Trailer Lights. Need Help!!

I Put a hopkins Trailer adapter same as this one a while ago, It plugs into the Ranger Flat lead wiring, and have to run a couple exstra wires to the reverse wire and stuff.

Now I Have real problems, and I recall having similar problems on my previous ranger.

#1 So Lets say I throw the 4 ways on with the headlights off, only the trucks lights works.

# 2 When you turn the headlight switch on then the trailer lights work sometimes, sometimes they just die all together stop clicking and flashing on the dash and everything. So no hazards on the truck even? why would the trailer cause the trucks hazards to die? Every so often it gives off the odd hazard flash sometimes.

Problem #3, So your signaling and going to stop at a intersection, The signals start working, but as soon as you use the breaks all the trailer lights die, even the orange side running lights on it.

Problem #4, When you signal the LED orange running lights on the sides dim slightly at the same time as the signal as if there drawing power from the signal?? but there not supposted to signal.

I checked all the fuses there all good, Maybe it could be a bad ground but in not sure. Might exsplane why it kinda works sometimes.

Oh and I used the 7 Round today and the 4 Flat lead plug in. the 4 Flat plug likes to kill all the lights when u break and the round likes to kill the hazzards

Is there a controll box for trailer lights or anything ?

Also! in running a EP 27 flasher and LED's and have the signal mod. not sure if any of that affects it

Well one big problem you have is trucks today are run with a real light gauge wire and can only handel the trucks lights. The trailer lights are just to much for it. You're best bet may be to find out how the truck is wired for the stock trailer pigtail and go from there. They make the adapters that go from your stock 4prong to what ever you need with out running extra wires.

1st get a test light and make sure you have power every where you need it before and after the adapter to make sure you don't need a new adapter.

Why would it not signal with the lights off on the truck?

What wires/ holes on the 4 way flat are for what?

cause there is not power running to any lights if the truck isn't on or in pre-ignition.. haven't checked but even if u turn ur key backwards the lights might work..

No I ment The trucks running, key on, engine running. But headlight switch off aka day time. and No trailer signals.

In thinking its a poor ground that would exsplane some of it except this.
