Icon8 truck doesn't run

Hey guys, I have 2000 ford ranger 3.0 4x4.. About two weeks ago the ranger quit running. I had it towed to a local ASE certified garage. I didn't want to pay dealer labor rates. The local garage determined that I needed a pcm. They got a used pcm.. The pcm was installed and was commuinicating with the other systems in the truck. But it needed to be sent to ford for programming on the ford computer.. Last friday the truck went a local mercury dealer. The truck was programmed on friday, the dealer said it was all set. I picked it up after hours and drove it off the lot. I got less than a half mile from the dealership and it quit running. The truck would crank but not fire the same symptoms as before. I had it towed back to the mercury dealer. They looked at it today. The dealership felt the truck needed plugs and wires. They removed the plugs and said they were fouled with gas, cleaned and reinstalled, the truck started but would not idle. The dealership claims that the truck doesn't show any obd codes. A guy at the dealership also thinks it might need a coil. but would be able to tell after the news plug and wires are in. Does any of this crap sound right? So after 570 dollars I am back to square one. 420.00 at ASE certified garage and 150.00 at mercury dealer. Am I getting screwed? Any thoughts or suggestions all help is appreciated. thanks

Mine did the same exact thing, only I didn't know at the time that the MAF could be cleaned. Had a new one installed (thank God for warranties) and all was well in Rangerland!

Could be. If there's too much oil on it, it can foul the MAF sensor. Since you have the K&N, you're gonna have to check your MAF from time to time and clean it.

I would advise never using a K&N filter in a street vehicle. Even from the factory they can be over oiled and screw things up (it happened to me). Oiling filter material is VERY old school and low-tech. It sometimes doesn't work well with modern intake systems.
Just my opinion.

I have heard of this before, some I have seen saturated with oil right out of the box! FWIW, I put a K&N on my ranger back in 99 and it's been running fine. But it's a good thing to check and only takes a few minutes!

I had talked to a nissan service manager last night. He thought that the ecm was bad and not giving a spark and not showing any obd codes. he said the ecm is the computer that doesn't show a code. does this make sense..

your coil either is bad or it isn't. a coil won't quit workin then start again. so their trying to screw you on that. but listen to these other guys and check that stuff.
