Truck submerged
Truck submerged
Hi folks, I would love some advise about what to do. My 2007 Ranger got flooded and the truck was under water for around over an hour. I already removed the water from the engine and it’s running again but my biggest issues are the auto trans and diffs etc. When I drained the auto trans and transfer case oil it was completely milky and there was heaps of water inside. What do I need to do to bring it back to life? What else do I have to look and change? My rear diff is sealed so how do I change the oil? Any other thing I have to do after a trck being under water?? Appreciate any help.

Changing the fluids is a good start, and yes you will defiantly want to change the diff fluid if you can find a way to do so as well. The real issue with any vehicle that has been flooded is the computer and electrical systems. Even if they are working now, electrical issues may pop up weeks, months, or even years from now, causing the truck to suddenly stop working. I would watch out for that, but also be aware that unfortunately, your truck will likely never be the same, which is why most people end up just buying a new vehicle after such an event. What you choose to do with it is up to you, but that is something to watch for. As far as the diff goes I am not familiar with sealed differentials, but I am sure there is some way to change the fluid, if you get under the truck can you find any possible fill or drain bolts?

Glad to hear you got the diff fluids changed! Have fun with the truck, hopefully it gives you lots of fun still yet to come. The only other thing that you might consider is if the water you were in was muddy, you might consider cleaning out the radiator, mud and dirt caught in between the fins can cause overheating problems later. If the water was relatively clean, you might not need to worry about that.
