Couple of questions about washing the truck.

1) Is well water harmful?
2) What is hard water, how do i know if i have it, and is it harmful?

I couldnt get a response in the Cleaning & Detailing forum. Thanks!

well water or hard water

Hard water is what we have a lot of here in Cali.. its pretty much a high concentration of calcium in the water. Which in turns leaves deposits. IE Waterspots, that crap on your shower door, ect... It's not harmfull, just a nusance.

Well water? Couldnt tell ya, but my guess is that it would be more pure than tap water so in turn better for you/your truck, allthough it hasnt been "cleaned" in the modern sense...

Anybody feel free to corect me..

Well water is not harmful. Hard water is water with a lot of minerals in it. As against water without a lot of minerals in it or as against "soft water", which is water treated by a water softener to take out most of the minerals. Some well water is hard and some isn't; it depends on the amount of minerals in it. Hard water can leave spots on washed windows and vehicles; it doesn't hurt anything, its just a PITA to deal with.

I use well water at my house, and we have a water softening system. The "softened" water leaves just as many water spots as the hard water did before we had the softening system...

Well water can be dangerous sometimes, so you have to have the well itself checked out periodically. Contaminants or poisons can get into the system. We couldn't drink the water at our place because there was arsenic or something in the water. But you can treat it for certain things.
