Turn-signal ratchets suck?

Turn-signal ratchets suck?

I couldn't find anything on this topic. Maybe it doesn't bother you all like it bothers me?

I hate the ratchet system for the turn-signal stalk. So many ratchets makes it more effective at disengaging my signal I suppose, but that's not really something I'm worried about. My Focus had a perfect one - a single ratchet at the beginning. I have trouble getting my Ranger signals to stay on when the wheels are turned slightly at a stop or when I'm coming around the gentle curve toward the turn for my apartment complex.

Is there anything that can be done?

There is a black ring on the steering column that has tabs that hits a tab on your multifunction switch. You could either grind down the tab on the switch or somehow remove the ring on the column.

Ring is on the right past the spring:

Or you could remove half of the tabs on the ring. That way it disengages but takes more turns to do so.

thanks for the pic! it looks easier than expected. any reason I shouldn't do this? or it is an easy part to replace if I crap it up? =-P

and I suppose it has a specific start/stop point? I'm guessing I'd figure that out when I got it open, but I'd like to have just that first fin engage like on so many other cars.

The multifunction switch can be replaced easy......I have no idea about that ring.

As for the when they engages: I think it really has to do with when you activated the turn signal and where your steering wheel was at the time.
