Using the wrong oil???

I know I know another oil question. I just bought a used 2008 Ford Ranger XLT and the owner said to use 10w30 oil but the owners manual says to use Motocraft SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Oil. Should I do a oil change so I can put the correct type in?

Brand doesn't matter but yes you should be running 5w20 semi or full synthetic. Sometimes on very high mileage engines people think using thicker oil will help to keep leaks to a minimum but I firmly believe you should always continue to run the proper weight oil for the life of the engine.

do you need to do an oil change immediately? Not really but I would definitely switch back to the proper oil at the next oil change interval.
