Is my starter or alternator going out? like when i turn the key its makes a whine, then starts. it never did that till it got cold, so i was figuring that. step dad says it may be my starter, so im not too sure. was thinking of replacing it anyways but thats a big chunk of money. 119 or 144 at autozone.

 

my guess is the alt but id wait and see if you start having batt problems ... could just be too much tension on a belt or something

 

is it a high or low pitch whine? My power steering pump whines when I first start it up for a while, then settles down.

 

my first thought was ps too but he said he hasnt started the truck yet when it starts doing this

 

my truck seems to have a low pitch groan in N, park, or in 1st gear moving very slow...

 

the whine goes away right away after start up. so im not too sure, and i didnt start noticing this until it got cold. i mean when i start it throughout the day it starts real good, just mornings. im not too sure if i should wait it out till it gets warm again, then judge. or should i replace it now, before it gets worse if anythings wrong

 

How cold is it out? And does it whine while your starting? or with the Key in the on postion.. When my truck was parked for 6 days at tempetures below -20C It had trouble starting and the engine whined for a good 10 min till it warmed up.
