plan is to make the parking 3157 bulbs up front light up twice as bright like the new Toyota tacos and chevys... basically take the low high filaments and swap to using both so it uses full wattage like a running light and if I hit the blinker it flashes all off and back on...

It should work, I don't see why it wouldnt.

looking at it some chevy guys say there is a new 4114 bulb that does this mod...

that mod was done on a 3156 socket, ours is a lil different, that's the only thing thats stumped me...
here's mine on a cloudy day, on sunny days you can barley tell they are on :-(

Looks like it will work on the reverse lights but yeah the front turn signal socket is different. The front turn signals use a 3457 bub while the rears use a 3156 bulb.

Do the turn signal bulbs have two filaments? I have never needed to change one in my truck so I have no clue.

the front and rear do, yes...

when you have the parking lights on it uses the low filament, and when you hit the turn lever it alternates with the low filament and the high filament, my Idea was to reverse this so that it runs high all the time and alternates reverse...

Ok. Duh. Just some things that I really don't pay attention too but I remember now. So you want to use the parking lamp for a turn signal along with the stock turn signal but then you would lose the parking light function. Also what if you have done the blinker mod?

Not quite. The It doesn't alternate anything. It just turns the high filament on and off. the low filament does not change or do anything else. It is strictly on or off with the parking lights.

In order to do what you are trying will involve a lot of creative wiring with relays. You need to have them operate like normal when the parking lights are OFF. Then you'll need to use some relays to make them come on with the parking lights, bypass the regular turn signal operation, and off with the turn signals.

IMO the front turn signal bulbs are bright enough but I would do this to the backup lights to get more light out of them.

Also if I remember correctly the Ranger ground and ungrounds the bulbs to make them turn on and off and that's why the blinker mod requires you to mess with the ground. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope. It is only +12 on and off.

You want to do what with backup lights? Have them flash with the signals or have them on as parking lights? In either case, I think you'll find that to be nearly 50-state illegal and is like painting a giant target on your ass.

correct me if im wrong, but for the reverse light:

If putting a dual filament bulb in place of a single if they ran in series it wouldnt be much brighter, but would the two filaments run in parallel? that would definitely make it brighter, but wouldnt that blow out a fuse?

I won't know until I try. I shouldn't even mess with it. Separate reverse lights are the way to go. Also I am thinking it's time for a F150.

The dual filament bulbs are parallel operation. You can't wire them in series, it isn't physically possible. Also, they are such low wattage to begin with, it is unlikely you will have any effect on fuses. Its also unlikely that the low filament will add much your light output.

How hard would it be to make the high filament come on with the parking lights, off with the blinker, and constant low filament? That would produce the desired effect...

There must be a way. Too bad I'm not an electrician, or I would figure this out. Lol

Yes there is a way but it is way more work than its worth.

I would swear it would be all in those connectors, if you snapped those it looks like it would work... I even thought if you spliced in a 3156 socket and pulled the 3457 sockets it would work... leave it to me to have some crazy idea...
