Window Regulator Motor won't stop- 2003

2003 Ranger. When I hit "auto" to crank the driver window down, it gets to the bottom and starts "ratcheting" until I hit the button to stop it. I 'm guessing there's a limit sensor switch that is bad or needs adjustment? Any comments are helpful.
Thanks

I hope that someone comes up with some info on this. My 2002 has the opposite problem. When I hit the 'up' button -- the window goes up and doesn't shut off when it closes if I'm still pressing the button. It starts making a ratcheting sound also.

Check the window regulator, the quadrant gear seems to wear out at the ends and causes this. There was just a very good right up on this with some great pictures.
This seems to be a common problem more not stopping going up then down.
Do a search on "window regulator" it should come up.
