Hi everyone,
I have an 02 Ranger 4.0 5 speed that I picked up in December 2007. Whenevr I used the wipers, I noticed that they would either stop (home) around four inches from the bottom of the windsheild or stop so low that they would scuff the top of the cowl to the point where the paint has now been rubbed off. I didn't think this was a big issue and was going to wait till the weather warmed up. Last night, the wipers completely stopped working in the rain. I drove the car home without wipers. When I moved the wipers, I could hear something clunking around in the cowl. Removed the motor and sure enough, the linkage had come off.
My Haynes manual talks about a sleeve and a nub to attach the linkage to the motor. The only thing I found inside the cowl was a bolt. This made sense because the square hole inside the linkage fits over the squared off shaft from the motor and the bolt screws right into the shaft. After cutting my hands and struggling with the bolt, I was able to attach it to the motor shaft/linkage and the wipers started working but again they hit the cowl then come up an inch or so when they are home.
My questions are, for the people that have removed their motors, have you ever seen just a bolt and nothing else retaining the linkage to the motor?
For everyone else, I am thinking of replacing the motor for the wipers traveling too far, any other idead?

02's didn't come with 4.0L

 

It is absolutely a 4.0. I've purchased many parts for it.

 

wow that is defiantly not true

i would take the wiper arms off and check to see if there is a limiter or something similar before you replace the whole motor.

 

When I bought mine I requested a 4.0L and they said they didn't make them anymore because of the economy and gas.

 

They were wrong. If you want economy, this truck is not for you.

 

They must have lied mine is a 4.0 sohc i can take a pic if you'd like
