How To: 96-03 Driver side airbag removal

In this write up, you will learn how to change out your cruise toggles. This work was performed on a 2001 XLT.

**IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH REMOVING YOUR AIRBAG YOURSELF, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS! RANGER FORUM IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INCIDENTS WITH THIS PROCEDURE, THIS IS AN "AT YOUR OWN RISK" HOW TO.**

Tools needed:
Small flathead screw driver
8mm socket & Ratchet w/ extension

Step 1.

Disconnect your negative battery terminal!! THIS IS A MUST!

Step 2.

Using your flat head screw driver , pop off the two circular caps located on the sides of the steering wheel.

Step 3.

Locate and remove the two 8mm bolts that hold your airbag to the wheel itself.

Step 4.

Gently pull the airbag straight out and locate the wire harness.
Disconnect the harness.

Reinstall in reverse order.

Congratulations! You have successfully changed out your airbag!

Also add that after unplugging the battery it's a nice precautionary measure to blow the horn for about 30 seconds to get all the power out and wait about 15 minutes after plugging in the new bag to reconnect
