How-To: Get your own Ford Service CD's / DVD's.

It's been gone over on this site before, but people still ask where to get the Ford Service CD's that a few of the members use on this site, this how to will address how to get the files needed, and how to "burn" them onto a cd, which is needed for the program to run correctly.

First off, head on over t http://www.fordcds.com/ and download the file appropriate to your truck. You may also download a ".torrent" file from that site to be able to use a Torrent downloader (BitTorrent or Bit Comet are two well know ones). Be advised that if you are to g after DVD's, you are not downloading the main DVD file from the website, but merely a file tells your downloader what the files are and wher they can be found. However, if you choose to download the Service CD's, you are downloading the files directly from http://www.fordcds.com/.

After you choose which files you want (I try and get the Service DVD's, as they allow a greater number of years and vehicles per DVD than the broken down CDs) you will need to unzip them. You may use Winzip (http://www.winzip.com) or the Unzipper that is included with Windows XP or newer versions. After the file is unzipped, it is time to burn them to a CD or DVD, respectivly. Below is a small overview of the steps needed to burn either a .ISO or.NRG image file to the required media using "Nero Express".

Fire up Nero, and this is what you get:
Name: 1.jpg
Views: 2532
Size: 68.4 KB

Note that my mouse is hovering over the Disc Image or Saved Project selection, choose that.

Once you choose that, another menu will appear, asking you where you file is located. Notice that Nero automatically has selected the choice of "All Supported Compilations and Images". If the file you downloaded doesn't show up in the main window where you've saved the file too, you may have to change what Nero is looking for, as shown below, where my mouse is hovering over the "Image Files (*.nrg,*.iso,*.cue) choice.

Once you select the downloaded image file and click the next button, you will come to this screen:

Size: 54.8 KB
You don't have to change anything here, unless your CD burnere is different than the one selected.

After that, you can let the burner do its work, and at the end it will pop the CD / DVD out of the drive. The next step is to install the file reader that the CDC uses. Put the CD back into your CD drive, and open up "My Computer" on your desktop or start menu. double click on the cd drive that you put the CD in, and when that opens up the folder to view the files on the cd, double click / run the file called "Install"

Size: 51.5 KB

That will take you through the steps needed to install the program Ford uses. Once installed, you will find the program listed under FORD on your start menu, which is where you will need to navigate to to open the program when you want to use it. Once installed, you will still need the CD in your drive to read and use the contents of the service manuals on the CD.

You may also install other years and models, and that will have no effect on your previously installed years and models.

This should provide a good overview of what is needed to install and use the Ford Service CDs and DVDs, if you have any comments, please feel free to post them, as well as any questions you may have.

Ford shut that down long ago, lawsuit and all... Unfortunatly the $15k and above that you pay for your truck doesn't include a copy from the company you bought your vehicle from... Last time I bought a factory dealership manual I paid $106 for the shop manual ( not the cheap pos Haynes type )
