I remember someone doing this. They said it was just a slight mod. I think that was only if you had cruise control. From looking at pictures the spline of the columns looks about the same and the connector for the horn and cruise buttons that goes to the clockspring looks almost identical. But I think the older ones have 5 pins and the new ones have 6, could be wrong. Bottom line.....it can be done.

This thread has been dead for 4 months why would you even post in it lol. Pretty sure you'd have to swap a lot of electrical stuff out though, especially for the airbag and clockspring to work correctly and safely.

4 months isn't that old for a forum thread. Plus his question was never answered. I'm about 90% sure that the clockspring doesn't have to be switched out. The connectors are the same on at the end on an 04 as they where since 95. Looking at the wiring diagrams they have the same wiring. I bet the only thing you have to change is the harness plug for the air bag. Just unpin the harness from the old one and put it on the two wires on the air bag. I bet that was the modification that was hinted at, that I read before. I had to do a similar mod when adding an explorer clockspring to mine.

damn i never knew that. Only thing I disagree on is it being from 95 onward, its from 98-10. I just checked on a Ford site for compatibility/diagrams. Damnit, now i want a newer style wheel in my truck haha

DUDE SAME!! I've always wanted the 04-05 XL style wheel w/o cruise. Maybe I will hold off and get one with cruise for when I put in my 4.0.
