ok i have just got a 5 point harness and want to install it soon with my new seats and i have no clue were to mount teh sholder staps as they have to be mounted 1-2 inches below the top of your sholders ??

any ideas?

oh ps i have a regular cab with no back seat and about 4 inches behind the seat. ...

 

they should be mounted level with your shoulder........if not they will put a strain on your back when you have a crash....

you may need to fab up a roll bar or buy new seats
the Ranger seat backs are not strong enough to support the harness

 

you probably should mount a bar across the back of the seats....maybe weld it to each side of the cab and add a brace in the center......

unless you want to drill holes in the back of your cab.....

 

you can bolt it to the 2 bolts that hold the shoulder belt to the cab. it will probably have to be a stretched out "u" shape but would be a safe structural point to do it.

 

i just bought off road suspention seats and yea i have those now and could i weld a bar to the melt of the body in my truck so like the metal under the plastic interior panles? any otehr ideas as i dont have a welder?

return those and get some seats designed for the harness
or fabricate an internal roll bar (or cage since it's inside the truck) and bolt to that
Djaye put Sparcos in his truck but it is a street machine (only saw it off the road once - not pretty)

 

put em in your bed so you can go offroading with someone laying down back there that wont fly out. Also ...bring a pillow

 

 

harnesses need to be secured to a rollbar. there is nothing factory in the truck that the harness can be attached to.
it wouldn't be worth having a rollcage built and installed just to mount a $40 harness to it. now, having a rollcage is completely worth it's weight in gold and would obviously be a great thing to have, and as an extra you would have a great place to mount a harness. but it's not really logical the other way.
i would expect a custom (cause they all would be) rollcage for a ranger to be in the $500-$1000 range.....unless you can cut, bend, notch, and weld DOM tubing yourself.

 

yea i am getting a roll cadge but not for about 6 months and i and i will strap them to that then but for now i know i can make somehting work .. these harneses were expencive too there top notch and there desinged for the seats

i got the corbeau baja offroad suspention seats with the matching 5 point 3" strap harneses

 

i was lookin in the truck and there seems to be a structual bar taht runs horizontal a few inches below the window on the back of the cab, now i have not looked at this yet and taken off the interior panneling but i think it is structual bar at least. can anyone confirm this?

also untill i get the roll cadge what about a welded bar that runs at the right hight fabbed to the sides of teh truck

or

what about drilling trew the back of the cab and into metal plates on the out side of the cab between the cab and bed box so the bolt would go threw the back of the cab into a thick plate on the outside of the truck making it quite a bit stronger??

you could build a hoop that runs from the floor(with plates on the floor that bolt to plates under the cab, that are connected to the frame) and have the bar come up as high as you need it to. that would be the simplest way as far as doing an inside bar would go.
i wouldnt weld a bar to the sheet metal and use a mount off that, IMO that would just tear the sheet metal in a wreck
