Airbag Switch: Ash Tray / Cubby

I've had the ash tray come stock in my 99 Ranger and am looking to get the cubby instead. Anyone know how much they run from Ford to buy brand new? I couldnt find any on eBay. Or, anyone want to trade for my ash tray?

I had a member on here switch with me. I got the cubby and he got my ashtray. The cubby is sooo much better. Perfect spot for my HU remote. The ashtray wasted space for me

Good luck

Here are a couple pics of mine-

Here is what it looks like behind it, that whole piece around the switch looks like its molded to the dash, i'll look at it again and let you know.

But look at yours, take the ashtray assembly off and see what it looks like behind it- take a pic if ya can.

Not to steal your thread or anything but has anyone used this cubby area for anything (i.e. mounted gauges, radio, c.b., etc..) I thought about trying to mount a radio in there but dont think it will fit.

To gofrom ashtray to cubby you have to have the peice you holding in your hand, AND the peice that is still in the dash, that the airbag switch is mounted to.. 2 or 3 screws i believe

and the ashtray is NOT wasted space.. it holds all my coinage and other small crap I don't want in my armrest

I've had a switch panel/gauge panel there for YEARS!

It started being a panel for my nitrous purge pushbutton and "arm" switch. Then after the IAT mod, I added a potentiometer to adjust the amount of resistance applied the the IAT, and a 2 way switch to select between "Stock" and "modified".

Now I've got my blue LED mirror-signal switch (to deactivate them if needed, since they're illegal), my blue neon's switch, a Volt meter, and my IAT potentiometer and switch mounted on a carbon-fiber-face custom molded panel I fabbed up. The gauge is an AutoMeter to match all the other's I used to have, and all the lighting on the panel and the gauge is BLUE LED (of course).

You can barely see it in the background of this picture (the pic was a LED-HVAC How-To image, so it's not very good)

By the way, this "cubby-hole" panel is a two-part assembly, and the rear piece is mounted to the dashboard with 3 screws, one in the "cubby-hole" and two underneath on the back end, accessible only if you remove the cup-holder console. After all 3 screws have been removed, remove the air-bag switch (two screws) and it all just falls off the dash.

Looks pretty sweet, I though about putting pressure gauges here if I decide to go with bags. Either that or trying to relocate my radio here but I dont think its deep enough. (I wanted to put a screen in the place of the stock radio)

Well I bought that one in the link lol. Thanks for posting it! I wanna see how big it actually is, I might not even end up using it. I hope it's big enough for two small gauges, I'd be happy with that. Haven't seen one though in person to judge.

The only way you'll fit two small gauges in that cubby is if you cut out the passenger air-bag switch and make the whole assembly a compartment. Your best bet would be to fiberglass a face on it with two holes for the gauges...

What an a-hole. I got it in the mail today and it's off a 2000 ranger with a completely different color gray than the 01-03 charcoal gray interior. It is light gray like my headliner. He said oh yeah it's out of an 01 and will fit 01-03, which it does but it even says 2000 ranger on the underside of it. What a *****.

Does it fit in place of the ashtray? Sorry to hear it's the wrong color, maybe you could paint it?

I have the cubby piece in black - but it has no airbag switch -you would have to put yours in it. I don't want an ash tray, but I'll sell it to you. PM me if you are interested.

The Airbag switch is held on by two screws mounted at the top leading edge on a flange.

I won an ashtray console on Ebay, but found out it was Gray, so I sent the guy an e-mail asking to relist the item. I didn't want it for $28 anyway!
