Auto dimming rearview mirror w/compass and temp?

Has anyone got one of these?

Im curious how the install went, and what the cost of the unit was/ where you bought it.

I'd like to get one, the dealership here has them, but they seem over priced, and the install they want on them is too much

I found the Gentex51A when I was comparing prices for the Scangauge II. They have a lot of different models. The basic with the auto dimming feature by it's self all the way to auto dimming, home link, compass, and temp. Here's a picture of all the different models and prices they offer.

They even have one's that use the On-Star Program as well.

I think I'm going to invest in the Auto Dimming Feature only one. $75 isn't that bad for it I think.

Just get one and the OHC from an explorer. Much cheaper, bright map lights, OEM fit/finish, compass, temp, auto dimming, and if you like wiring auto headlights. Only feature it doesn't have is homelink. Just don't get one from a truck with a sunroof like I did.

Thanks for that link with all the prices, they are much better than what i have been looking at!

What is the difference between the Gentex ($179) and the Mito ($199) Harness? Im looking at the auto dimming, Temperature, and compass model.

Come on, go custom!

OHC, Autodim mirror and Homelink (sensor for auto wipers is behind mirror)

Taurus Autolamp switch (sensor is in dash)

You could always take a butter knife and split the case apart and replace the smt led they have in there. I didn't do that, but my mirror had a crappy spring tension mount so I figured hell, why not take the mirror apart. I didn't get pics though.

(Do NOT buy the mirror from the dealer, they come with a spring steel mount that wobbles, get one from elsewhere and make sure it has a set screw)

Oh just to clarify, the compass display and temp are not changeable. It is a self contained vacuum display. The light sensor color looked changeable. The read out is turqoiuse colored

Just find one on ebay, ordered one for $55 including shipping. Hasn't come yet, we'll see how it looks. It was the Gentex 177 with auto-dim, compass, and temp.

I have an overhead console and it came with a non compass non home link auto dimming mirror.

What is needed to just make the mirror dim. I don't care about the auto headlamps at all... just want it to automatically dim.

Thanks,
-Nigel

If it came with the wiring harness pigtail, just hook up the ground and switched power. The easiest place to hook it up to is the radio if you have an aftermarket radio.

Where did you get your lighted visor mirrors?

Been looking for these.

Thanks,

Looking for automatic dimming rear view mirrors to reduce the glare from trailing vehicles? Try the frameless DPS electrochromic automatic dimming mirror. It comes with onstar and homelink. https://dpsdealers.com/category/auto-dimming-mirrors.
