Hi guys, now i´m swapping my 1994 dash for a 2004 one, i will not use the stock ´04 gauge cluster, because i don´t want to be into a nightmare swapping it, for that reason i will use some autometter gauges, tachometer, speedo, fuel and watter temp. So the qwestion ís:

What kind of autometer speedo i have to use, mechanical or electrical? (to work for the 1994 transmition), also, What kind of temp gauge, fuel gauge i need to use?

I know how to instal the tachometer, so. that´s no a problem.

So guys please help me...

Also any of you know where can i get a lunar gauge cluster, made for a ´95 & up dash dimensions?

On your 94 I believe it has a mechanical speedo, so normally you have to buy an aftermarket speedometer cable in order to use the autometer gauge. That also can run in to troubles if your engine computer gets a VSS off of the speedo cable. They do make cables for autometer and a vss signal but the are over 100 dollars typically.

As for the fuel gauges you need to get the one that measures the proper resistance for your vehicle. Use summit racing and check your applications, it will list the 94 ranger under there for the proper resistance range.

As for the temp gauge run an analog electric gauge, and you will have to add a sender to the block. The new gauge will come with one.

Here is how I did my autometer gauges in the same dash you should have.

This LINK is the site I normally see it on, its the 7300 at the bottom of the page, but double check me before you order. Summit does not carry this cable, but they do have the cables without VSS, which is what i'm running. You could also use an add on VSS generator, but overall it costs more.

 

On my '88 I used all AutoMeter Gauges, (Speed-O, four Mechanical Gauges and a separate Top-of-Dash Mounted Tach) the speed-o was mechanical and all electrical gauges.
The Speed-O hooked up the the existing cable and the existing wiring was used for most the gauges where it could be.
Use a schematic and attached per stock setup through the OEM Dash Harness Plug and all worked but you could run new wires where necessary.
All the lighting was connected through the OEM plug and worked great.
Oh ya, just remembered... The OEM Plug I am referring to is on the vehicle harness side, the Dash was removed completely and replace with an aluminum panel.
And, the Idiot-it Light for the Charging System (if you have one) needs to have a resistor put in place to replace the bulb that was in my dash.

I am thinking about re-doing my '03 Dash with AutoMeter gauges too BUT there are so many signals to worry about.

 

I have a 1992 ford ranger manual trans 2.3l I’m tired of using my phone for a speedometer and want to use some sort of autometer product that just plugs in to factory cable I’m willing to cut out the old crappy speedo if I need to just to get it working please let me know what yall think some restore shop wants to charge over a thousand to get the old one working
