Changing guage cluster lights, opinions welcome!!

I am wanting to change the color of the lighting of my guage cluster and was wanting some opinions on the best way to go about it. I just read a thread on here about taking off the green film on the back and then painting with a different color. I have heard that it fades or peels. What do you guys think about this or is there or do you recommend a better way. I pulled off my dash around my speedo and took the green cover off the bulb on the switch for my lights and is now white instead of green.

no matter what color you add, the green film stays on.

if you are going to do all that work, just buy new gages.
seems easier .

I disagree. You can easily change the color and there is a full how-to on my site here:

My gauges are currently red with blue highlights and yellow warning indicators.

Here's more or less the current setup. Notice the EATC instead of the heater controls in the how-to. Also, the 6CD radio faceplate has been replace with a white one from a Lincoln Navigator or Aviator (can't remember what it was, lol), but with the buttons now tinted blue and the display left white. I'll get pics up at some point -- I've been pretty lazy about it.

My next truck will get that special treatment.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to do mine in blue. My radio is a pioneer and is green that I had in my previous vehicle, so i've had it for 6yrs. The cd player quit working a couple of weeks ago so I'm getting a new one. It's an Alpine and the faceplate is already blue and can be connected to either sirius or xm.

$25 is not bad! I've seen a lot of guys on here getting new guages on ebay and spending a lot more. I suppose it is for sport trac guages or something. I like these on this site. It looks more like it came in a ranger rather than putting one thing from one vehicle and putting it in another.
