Explorer/Mustang Dome light vs. Stock 3 bulb Dome

Okay I have the dome light that has the switch with drivers and passengers map light along with the 3 bulbs inside. I just noticed tonight that I can't switch the dome light totally off.

Can anyone tell me the real differences between the Explorer and Mustang dome lights functionally compared to the 3 bulb dome light that I already have?

its almost the same but with 2 switches, you might have a lil issue swapping b/c I have a dome light that like yours and I wanted to install it but the way the hook ups go it reverses the switches... Keep what you have!

It's different for your year truck...you have to run an extra wire to the front of the truck. For the Original Poster, it is a plug and play type of swap. I have a 99 which is basically the same exact thing as the 98 and i just bolted it right in. Its a VERY easy swap, took me about five minutes to install and I am very satisfied, it is much brighter and aims much better not all over the place like the stock one in the 98-00.

Honestly....the explorer sucks compared to a mustang/super duty dome. And inmy opinion, nothing beats the stock 'bubble' lamp that came stock in my truck. Ive ran all three and stock rocks.

The stang: perfect aim of the map lights, but you cant get high output white incandescent bulbs for it(212-2)

The Ploder: horrible aim of the map lights, but you can get good incandescents for them(906/194)

heres mine:

Okay bought the Explorer and the Mustang one and now they are in the classifieds. I'll stick with stock since none will be able to open the door with the light turned off.

i ended up taking the light bulb out of my dome light because it would stay on most of the time, it was really distracting at night
