Explorer visor wiring help needed!

Ok so I installed my explorer visors earlier, and when I went to wire them up (used the spare domelight wire off my OHC) nothing happened when I opened up the mirror. The visors were installed and everything. Now when I went and shook one of them it came on then abruptly turned off, do these ground through the screws? How do I get them to light up properly? Thanks

It depends on the year of the visors. Some, the earlier ones I believe, use a single power wire and they do ground through the screws. Others have a second black wire that goes back to a chassis ground somewhere.

Check the mounting holes for the visors in your roof. If they have nylon inserts in them, then the screw ground won't work. You will need to bring a ground wire out from above the headliner, crimp an thin eyelet on it and sandwich it between the visor bracket and one nylon insert on each side. This will supply the ground to the metal visor bracket and the mirrors should illuminate.
