Fiberglassed Radio Bezel
Ok, I know someone on here has an aftermarket radio fiberglassed into the radio bezel. Any pics? I'd like to learn how to do this.
|
you mean fiberglass the installation kit to the bezel?
Wouldnt be that hard, just rough up the bezel, put some fiberbondo on, sand it and your good... Dont have any pics though Rocky |
how would you cover the hole for the pocket?
|
You can use fiberglass clothe/weave to cover the hole.
Use fiberglass bondo to fill most of what you need, but use the regular bondo to really smooth things out. It's pretty simple. The member you're thinking of is rangerboyFX4 I think. He's got a black FX4 and changed the interior from tan to black, right? |
What hole are you talking about? The whole radio piece? I wouldnt do the whole thing...I would go from the backside and put fiberbondo on the backside to hold it where you want it....then flip it back over and put fiberbondo around the hole....ahh, unless your talking about the "SLOT" under the radio..I think i could cut something to fit in there and fiberbondo over it.....i hate using fiberglass / weave.. it sucks Fiberbondo is the Sh!t...when it drives its hard as a rock.....

here is my radio bezel, i think this is what he is looking for:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...01_56_full.jpg I just put some fabric over the hole and fiberglassed it and put some bondo where it looked wavy. I also shaved the cigarette lighter because I dont smoke and thought it looked better. |
if you look up different places and come across a term called "kitty hair " that's just the fiberglass bondo mixture. just thought I'd throw that out there, cuz it confoozed me for a while

that does look good.....i am going to do that and use that spot for my LED's to indicate that my efan is on and indicate that my strobe lights are on!

i thought you were selling it?

NO! fiberglass is a poor choice to bond plastic since, FIBERGLASS DOES NOT BOND TO PLASTIC!!!!!! i have said it a million times. you need Duramix 40/40 or Dominion Seal plastic epoxy to bond the kit to the dash opening. then you sand the epoxy down, high build primer, wetsand, paint and then clear. this method is not only correct, but it knocks install time and cost in half. PM me if you want specifics.
