Okay, I searched and saw all the other threads on mounting their fire extinguisher, but I was wondering who else has done this since then and has pictures? I've seen and helped on a few fires and finally got my rear in gear and got a 5# extinguisher that I want to mount in the cab. I have a 2000 extended cab with 2 doors, 60/40 bench and both jump seats still and want to try to keep it that way. Any ideas on where i could mount it? I've thought about tryin to fab something onto the back of the seat rail so its sitting up right in between the seats for easy access or bolt it onto the floor by the back wall. Sorry for the long post, but any ideas would be awesome, thanks.

 

what about right behind the drivers seat, mounted to the floor......or in front of the driver seat, on the floor, in between the mounting bolts??

 

Near the cruise control wiring!! I'd put it in the supercab somewhere, like behind the jump seats (it should fit, a 12 pack will) or in the front corner of the box.

 

I've thought about behind the jump seats but if I'm in a hurry I need easy access. Fx4, what do you mean by between the bolts in front of the seat? I am positive a 5# won't fit under my seat, but behind may work, I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the ideas, keep 'em comin!

 

idk how big a # 5 is but some pple do it on the a pillar of the truck... my cuzin did tht with his.. BAD IDEA... on hot summer day he was like goofin around with his buddies ridin their dirtbikes and took a break and his friend noticed his trucks interior was white and they went up to the truck and noticed that the can got so hot it exploded and rocketed out of the holster bounced off of the passenger seat an windshield about three times and then BAM!!!.. it went straight through the windshield... moral of story.. it might look kool to mount it there ... but can also end up very bad... but then again i dont kno how big a #5 fire extinguisher is ... sorry for makin it so long...

Can I venture a guess this was a rather inexpensive one with the plastic top? Those things suck. Always get the ones with metal top.

 

I'm definitely not gonna mount it on a pillar. I have a fundamental problem with putting a 5# object in line with my head for accidents. Your head loses every time. I want it on the floor or on the wall but resting on the floor if that makes sense. So far I really like the idea of putting a blind nut through the floor and bolting the mount to the floor just behind the driver seat. Depending on how it faces I can just grab it through the middle from between the seats or pull the seat forward and grab it easily.

 

what about beside the driver seat between the seat and door im not sure how big the tank is but ive seen it before like this

That's an idea, but it is only a 2.5# extinguisher. The 5# I picked up is a bit bigger than that and won't fit there. I've been looking at local supply stores and I think that I will probably fab up a bracket that bolts to the back of the seat rails on the driver side. Basically a big C channel that bolts to each side, then bolt the extinguisher mount to it. It's close enough to the floor that it shouldn't have to support any weight of the extinguisher. It would also give me easy access to it.

 

I've been thinkin about where to mount one as well, do the fire extinguishers come with a bracket to mount it somewhere and it can be removed easily??

 

The one I bought came with a wall bracket. The extinguisher sits on a forked piece and has a metal strap to hold it to it. It has four bolt holes in it I will use to attatch to the bracket I intend to fab.

 

Just a question here? Why do you need a 5# extinquisher? If you have a fire that big you should have been long gone by then. What type is it? It would a shame to have one that big and it's not for the type fires you would find on a vehicle. Seen that happen too often.
I would return it and get a smaller one so you can mount it like shown by the seat so you can get to it easily. If you can't get to it quickly it won't do much good.

 

a 2.5# ABC fire extinguisher is big enough for any fire that any unexperienced person should attempt to put out......small electrical fires is about all any untrained person should attemp to extinguish.........

an ABC extinguisher is what is needed in a vehicle......

 

Hey anyone got any ideas on where i can pick up a fire extinguisher?

 

Just curious but why does everyone need a fire extinguisher in their truck unless you were a volunteer fireman or first responder. I thought that only ricers did that for looks and in case they blew up their engine? I have never met anyone whose car has caught on fire.

 

I put mine just over the back jump seat. When I took that out I put my tool set in its place.

 

car fires happen quite often......anytime you complete the fire traingle (heat, oxygen, & fuel) a fire will occure....

a small fire extinguisher is a good idea incase of small fires.....as long as you know how to use the extinguisher...

 

A friends mini van caught fire on Sunday. I wasn't there but you never know. If a door is jammed and the car is going up an extinguisher can double as an extraction device too. It can never hurt to be prepared, plus I am going to get training as a first responder. I got my extinguisher at Costco for about $20, try Menards, Lowes or Home Depot, they have okay prices. Mine is also serviceable I won't have to buy a new oneafter use, but I would just get a new one.

 

For the same reason you have one in your house. If you do have a fire, you'll thank it.

 

Who said I had one in my house? (JUST KIDDING I HAVE SEVERAL) I have just never seen nor heard of that many vehicle fires aside from the ones caused by bad accidents.

 

I happens. It is not like cars are going up in smoke left and right, but it happens. Especially to people who modify the vehicle from stock. Also, in the event of an accident, I'd like to have one rather than watching a trapped driver burn to death.

 

I have stopped and helped on 4 different car fires. (I've only been driving for 4 years total) None of them were accidents either, they all just lit up going down the road. Like FireRanger said, it's there to save a life, if the car makes it, that's just a bonus in my book. I can replace my car, but people you can't replace.
