Ignition switch

At the moment, I'm starting the Ranger manually using the ignition switch till I get the mechanic to replace the ignition actuator rod.
Anyway, in starting it manually, it seems like that rod for the ignition switch pushes hard, and I know it has a return spring, but was wondering if it pushes that hard, if that could be what lead to the demise of the actuator rod, and maybe I need to get a new ignition switch. but don't know if a new one would push any easier?

Shouldn't be that hard to move, spring is just to return from START position
So yes that could have caused the issue with the actuator rod
