Air conditioning help!!
Alright well i wanna get this fixed before summer.
My door in my heater box broke off the swivel part so now it have it jammed up so its always hot air for the winter.
I want to take the entire box out of a ford explorer and use the digital hvac panel.
Does anyone know if the box will fit? Id like to be certain before i tear my entire dash put to fix it.
My junkyard doesnt have any rangers. only explorers so thats why I am wondering
Thanks

It's common for the temp blend door to break in Rangers and Explorers. I've replaced a lot of them and would not recommend installing a used part. I replaced my Rangers heater box two years ago when I bought the truck and it only cost me $141 new from Ford. I would also install a newer heater core at the same time, because you will have it out.

@XLT splash, my A/C is not leaking and the compressor engages. I've read on the explorer forum that its the blend door that is broken. I removed the blend door actuator and it turns very slowly. Where it sits on top, I guess connects to the shaft that moves the blend door from A/C to heat, is broken a little. I was going to order a new blend door and actuator.
On the explorer forum, it talks about cutting open the bottom of the box. Theres a template kit you can buy that comes with the blend door.
Any ideas on if its better to do it this way or tear the whole dash apart?
I have a 98' Ranger with a 4.0L OHV

I have seen the aftermarket blend door repair kits and they look like they would work. On my own vehicles I don't like cutting things up. So unless the new Ford part was no longer available I would go with the Ford part. I've done a lot of interior work on Fords and pulling the instrument panel and steering column on a Ranger/Explorer is a job I don't mind doing. They are well put together and easy to work on. With the 4.0L you will need to evac. and recharge the A/C. With a 2.3L you can work around the A/C. If don't want to pull your instrument panel and don't mind cutting things up the aftermarket kit can save you time and money. The blend door in my 1999 Explorer hasn't broken yet. If it does and I can't get the Ford part anymore. I would use the aftermarket repair kit, I just wouldn't cut up the heater box to install it. I would remove the heater box from the vehicle and then install the repair kit without cutting up the box. It's normal for the actuator to move slow. Look for a crack or break in the black plastic of the blend door where the actuator shaft slides into it.
