OHC Installation 2008 FX4
Hey everyone,
I've been working on installing my OHC and I'm SO CLOSE to being finished.
This is my first ever time doing any kind of electrical work, or any significant modification to a vehicle.. so I'm a total noob.
So far I've got the bracket in and the wires run through the headliner.. I'm just having a ton of trouble with a couple wires.
I still need to hook up my Orange/Green dimmer, and my Grey/Black speed sensor.
Old Ranger's are supposed to have the the grey/black go to their GEM behind the dash, and newer ones say to hook it into the "Smart Junction Box Brown". Is the SMJ the one under the glove compartment? I also saw this posted somewhere:
I'm a little confused by this sentence. I'm assuming VSS means Vehicle Speed Sensor.. which is the PCM and Speed Control Servo?
Does this mean I can find the violet/orange the comes out right by the pedals? Does this mean I should just disregard the Junction box?
I've also seen people say that the dimmer is rendered moot by 2007 Rangers, so I shouldn't even bother with it.
Sorry for this long-winded post.. I'm just at a point where the more I search the more confused I'm becoming. This is supposed to be a very short job but because it's my first time doing anything like this it's taken me VERY long to get to this point.
If anyone could help me identify where I need to be through these pictures I took I would very much appreciate it... Thank you!

For 2007~2008, the Ranger got the 170-pin PCM and new harnesses. The new VSS color is violet/orange and it is under the hood between the PCM and the speed control servo.
The gray/black wire goes from PCM pin 68 through the firewall to the back of the instrument cluster for the speedometer. You could tap it right at the PCM or behind the cluster or you could dig around in the large wire bundle where the engine compartment wires come through the firewall to the dash harness.

all the wires you should need should be on that passenger side kick panel if i remember correctly. My 2004 was similar as that was the first year they switched locations.
maybe someone who's done it on a 2008 will chime in but I think everything should be there.

You might not even need to connect the speed sensor wire. A lot of guys don't connect it & they haven't had any trouble.
The green/orange wire should be the constant power to the map lights, I think you can tap into the constant power at the dome light.

Is the dome light a constant power? I just figured it wasn't since the light only goes on when my doors or open or when I turn it on manually.. if it's constant power though that'll be nice and easy.
