OHC installed
Based on the information in a couple of articles here, I got my OHC installed today. I used a box cutter to make the hole and it went pretty smooth. I almost messed up cutting the slotted holes when the bit pulled me in a bit. Fortunately, there is almost a 2" dead space in there ;)

you gonna wire it up?
One of those articles was probably mine, lol. Good job and hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to connect the VSS wire.
Must have been your article, because I did wire the VSS ;) It's all hooked up and working fine. I tried to CAL it, but got a little worried that I might get into trouble cutting doughnuts in the subway parking lot. It's a lot more accurate than it was, but the cycle hasn't completed yet. Since I don't have a garage opener, I was thinking of relabling the GARAGE button as "SCRATCH SUNGLASSES".
Both articles were actually from Strider0O0, btw (HOWTOs).
-edit- credited to you I see ;) |
Yes, as far as I know, I'm the first one to mount one without taking out the headliner to do so. Sounds logical now, but at the time (like 4 years ago) it was radical, lol.
My main how-to is on my CarDomain site, but I gave permission for various forums to duplicated them locally and Strider' was one of the ones who did a nice editing job. In most cases, the "copied" versions are better than the original, lol. |
Yeah, I probably wouldn't have done it if I had to take out the headliner. I'll wait for it to fall apart like they do ;)
did you have fun..looks great..thats one mod i HATED doing but i love the outcome
looking good!!
The part I hated was the fact of cutting into the headliner - point of no return. Otherwise, it was a nice project and very satisfying.

nice! my next mod.....all i have to do is find me one....

Yes, the pic was taken before I cut the slots. There are two plastic protrusions with metal clips that must have these slots to hold the thing in place.

Your OHC looks real good!
Thanks! By the way, I am pretty sure the slots are not there, although the ones precut on the bracket are ;)

I did. I was responding about the pictures above.

Today we're going to deal with Headliner Anxiety. So many people are not realizing the full potential of their mods because of their fears of cutting large, ragged holes in their trucks. Let's settle back, take a deep breath, and exhale slowly. Feel the tension ebbing out of your limbs from the tips of your fingers and toes, and slowly running through your limbs, up your body, and into your brain. Close your eyes. Empty your mind. For some of you that is so, so easy... Now imagine you are an Islamic zealot. You want to accomplish your Jihadist mission with the zeal of revolutionary, and the violence of a barbarian. Feel the throbbing begin to rush through your temples with angry self-righteousness. Next, imagine that the headliner of your truck is a key subsystem in an airliner. All you have to do is cut away the cover, and you can bring down the plane. Feel yourself picking up a smuggled box-cutter...that's it. Now, ATTACK!!!! WARNING: Be sure to snap out of this trance after cutting the hole, before you try to drive your truck at high speed into the Pentagon... |
