Just curious to know whether or not I can take a ranger cluster from an 06 Ranger and put it in my 96 Ranger..or did they change the design alittle to make it not fit?

depending on how much electrical you want to do, you can do any of these which is very nice:
- OHC (Over Head Console - '95-'01 Explorer)
- EATC (Electronic Automatic Temperature Control - '95-'01 Explorer)
- upgrade to a CD6/mp3 player from a newer Ranger (simple, just need to get a couple wire connectors from an audio shop)
- Explorer steering wheel ('95-'97 Explorer)

that is the stock adaptions from an Explorer that i have done to my truck...i love everyone of them, BUT the EATC mod is the one i love the most....

yes i would like to have that done to my truck....in order to do the OHC...do i need to have power windows, door locks, and such....or is it ok that i have manual everything? how much do you think the EATC would run me at a junk yard? how hard was it to set the EATC up in the truck?whats the difference in the steering wheels from the explorer to my 96 ranger?

manual windows/locks is fine with the OHC.......it doesn't require anything else for it to operate

i would say ALL the parts/wiring pig tales would run roughly $100-$200 depending on the yard.....IF you follow n3elz's write up on his Car Domain site, it is easy....IF you don't it is hard....

IF you get one that is leather wrapped, it is thicker than the Ranger steering wheel.......I got a grey one out of a '96 Explorer Limited, so you might be able to find a tan one also......i had to paint my air bag, but that wasn't hard with the grey interior paint at the auto parts store...

Not all of the explorer steering wheels are interior colored. Actually mostly just the sport trac and explorer sport steering wheels are colored, also any 95-01 Explorer wheel should be fine, you could probably even pop on one from a newer (up to '03) Ranger.

and that is why i stated it came from an Explorer Limited.....and not all Explorer steering wheels are leather wrapped and thicker than the Ranger wheel either, yet again why i stated it came from an Explorer Limited.....

yes steering wheels from any '95-'01 Explorer will work, just don't try to use their air bags....different wirings.........also up to '03 Ranger steering wheels with work also, but again don't use the newer air bags...

no it's not even about different wiring of the airbag, it's about them using different Airbag Control Modules. Although, I never said anything about airbags in the first place, thus I stated steering wheel and not airbag.

Also as stated, maybe he doesnt want to rattle-can his interior, a lot of people dont. Which is why I suggested a newer leather steering wheel.

Painting all the plastic is another mod that looks good if you take your time. Color match, your interior or go wild and so some oddball color.
