Replacement Seats

I own a 2004 Ranger FX4 with std 40/40 bucket seats and a console. My wife finds these seats to be uncomfortable for long trips and am looking into swapping. I've read past posts but didn't see one that specified this year truck. I'm assuming probably an Explorer seat but, as we are very rural, want to make sure before driving 2 hrs to a wrecking yard. Thanks in advance, Hal

As far as I'm aware, the seat mountings themselves haven't changed from 93-11. Although that being said, extended cab / single cab still matters. Single cab seats will fit into an extended cab but not the other way around.

Somewhere around 05, the passenger seat got some extra electronics, such as a weight sensor for the airbag. If this isn't present on yours then don't worry about it. However if you do have it, your replacement seats will need to be equipped with this also, lest your airbag light go on and throw a code.

I know in 03 they have an extra sensor to see if the passenger seat is buckled, much like the driver's seat. Look around under the passenger seat, see what you find.

Weight sensor didn't appear in ranger passenger seats until 06. So you're covered. If you are an extended cab, explorer/mountaineer buckets from 96-01 will bolt in with little modification as well as sport trac seats up to 05. If you are a single cab, you will need to modify the tracks to fit the cab floor or just swap your tracks to the new seats. However, doing this, you will lose all power options from the new seats.
