Shifter Ball

I went out and bought a new shifter head and was wondering how you get the old one off. My info is in my sig.

Is it glued on or is it screwed on with a set screw,etc...

Thanks for the help

there not threaded at all there is splines in it like an axle.. you PULL REALLY HARD then have it come off and smack you in the face... yep thats pretty much it.. and yes its glued in... only time mine will come off is in like 100deg weather and my truck has been sitting all day

Try a hairdryer, if you can get one out to your truck. Warm it up for 10-15 minutes. It does help.

Alternatively, wait until mid July to swap it out.

So heating it up is probalby the best option. Do you think I could get a big channel lock and take that bastard off.

BTW: how would you break it off.

^ haha thats when i realized i needed to get myself a new one

as far as breaking it off, grab a pair of channel locks and get a good grip on it, then work it til it either crumbles off or spins loose (thats how i removed one off of my friends 97' 5 speed)

Well I finally got the stock head off and let me tell you it might have been one of the hardest (pyshically) things that I have ever done to my truck. I had a monkey wrench and I was twisting and turing as hard as I could for at least 15 min and then finally it popped off. Then the white plastic piece was on and had to do the same to get that off.

I got the new unit installed but it doest go as far down as the stock unit. It doesnt sit flush with the shift boot. Is that normal?

I will get a pic up tommorow.
